Rikaak was born under a new moon, when the Shadowfell has its strongest influence on the mortal plane. The midwife of his clutch gasped when he cracked through his shell. He was marked with a white skull pattern on his back, the sign of the Shadowflock.
It was rumored that one so marked would be born a generation, and so the flock would survive, and so all flocks would survive. They were member of all the families and none, they were there to serve a purpose. They were to be shaped into tools and used, for the good of all the flocks. Or at least all the flocks which currently held sway. And they were raised to be very good at their purpose.
Rikaak is the last of his kind, the last one born at least. No one knows why the birthmarks stopped, but stop they did. And without the marks, the Shadowflock is dying, and the flocks are ‘nesting loudly’ as they say. Rikaak was told by an elder of the Assassins that the answer was to be found in the north, in the frozen country. He could not be more specific, he only said to pack warmly.
Rikaak is conflicted at this point. He’s been raised to believe that the function his order provided was vital to the continued life of his people. But having been raised an outsider, does he want to condemn more souls to his fate? He often ponders over if he even has the right to choose. He’s traveling north now, half-expecting to get no answers. It may be that there’s no destiny, no fate, and he may be free to find his own flock.
He travels with a Dwarf that lacks even dwarven people skills, and a Gnome that is sarcastic and maybe a little bent. He travels with outsiders. That is enough for now.
